As part of the project Learning Centers Network, Balkan Sunflowers has celebrated on Friday 19th April the opening of its fifth learning center, located in the Social Housing Buildings of Plemetina, Obiliq Municipality. The Mayor of Obiliq, Mr. Mehmet Krasniqi, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Jan Braathu, and the Head of Mission of the Representative Office of Luxembourg, Mr. Pierre Weber were the guests of honor for this special event, as well as representatives from OSCE, UNHCR, Obiliq schools, and NGOs.

“We are pleased to support Balkan Sunflowers’ work in the education of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities because of their good results and because they have found the formula for success,” H.E. Mr. Jan Braathu said. Mr. Pierre Weber expressed that “every human mind is a mine of gold and diamonds, and education is the instrument to dig out such precious materials”.

The Social Housing Buildings were built in 2006-2007 to close the Plemetina Camp / Temporary Community Shelter, inhabited by internally displaced persons since 1999. The center will serve approximately 60 children. It is intended to improve the level of education, reduce school dropouts, and increase school enrolment and inclusion, as the other Balkan Sunflowers learning centers are achieving.
