In October Balkan Sunflowers was approached by Sam and Andrea Juncker, Humanitarian Country Directors for Kosovo and Macedonia, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, about making a donation of much needed materials to the Learning Centers Network. Over the following weeks, Sam and Andrea worked with Jeff Treisbach, BSF Volunteer Coordinator, and the Plemetina Learning Center staff to determine how best their donation could be used. The Church donated over 3400 Euro worth of materials including furniture, books, pre-school toys, new heaters, a new computer, slippers, kitchen supplies, and much more. Among the new furniture were bookshelves, art supply centers, and chairs that were made by local carpenters in Fushe Kosova. On 26 January, the Plemetina children and staff were joined by Sam and Andrea, and by Blaine and Chris Colton, their supervisors, Area Welfare Specialists in the Church’s European Area Office in Frankfurt. The January event was special for the warmth and caring from Chris and Blaine, and Andrea and Sam, and the appreciation and excitement felt by kids and staff at the Plemetina Learning Center.
