On July 15th 1999, the first group of Balkan Sunflowers volunteers from around the globe arrived in Prishtina from Tirana, a 12-hour combi ride. Thus began BSF in Kosovo.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs. Navanethem "Navi" Pillay , has visited the Balkan Sunflowers Learning Center in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, as part of her official visit to Kosovo, on 20th June.

As part of the project Learning Centers Network, Balkan Sunflowers has celebrated on Friday 19th April the opening of its fifth learning center, located in the Social Housing Buildings of Plemetina, Obiliq Municipality. The Mayor of Obiliq, Mr. Mehmet Krasniqi, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Jan Braathu, and the Head of Mission of the Representative Office of Luxembourg, Mr. Pierre Weber were the guests of honor for this special event, as well as representatives from OSCE, UNHCR, Obiliq schools, and NGOs.

Balkan Sunflowers started a new project funded by the European Union, the Partnership for Reconciliation through Early Childhood Education and Development in Europe (PRECEDE). Balkan Sunflowers need one project coordinator to manage this project. Another congratulations is well-deserved in local youth film-making. Our good friends at Gaia held an Art in Action workshop with many wonderful activities including a youth film workshop. 20 August to 4 September 2011.   It is wonderful to announce that Denis Mustafa, a tutor at BSF's Plemetina (Kosovo) Learning Center, just won 
for his film Toxic Fun at the Depok Festival in Budapest.  Congratulations Denis!  Watch Denis' film.
